Podcast audiograms are when you take a sound file and make a video with it using a static graphic and some wave-form animation. These are usually used as podcast teasers that inspire and direct people to go listen to your podcast. Here are 4 reasons why podcast audiograms are the bomb:
4 Reasons to Use Podcast Audiograms:
#1 Videos Are 95% Better Than Graphics
No offense to graphics, but people retain about 95% of a message when they watch it in a video. Whereas they only retain about 10% of what they read (i.e. in an Instagram post with a simple image and caption). Just add wave-form animation and some sound to that graphic and BOOM- you have a video and 85% more message retention.
#2 Effective Hooks
What better way to entice people to go listen to your podcast than dropping some bread crumbs, or leaving them on a cliff-hanger? You can hand-pick the audio that you believe is most likely to hook people’s attention and make them want to hear more. Perhaps your guest is about to share a life-changing solution to a problem your listeners have. Cut the audio right there or a little bit after and encourage them in your caption to listen to the full audiogram.
#3 Podcast Audiograms Garner 5x More Traffic
A study was done by Headliner. They shared a podcast episode two different ways on Facebook: via a static image and an audiogram. The podcast audiogram garnered 5x more results and traffic than the static image did. The static image received 118 clicks, while the audiogram received 660 clicks. What a huge increase of listeners!
#4 Takes Less Work and $$ Than A Video Clip
To create an audiogram, all you need is a static image, some wave-form animation and the audio file from your podcast. It takes about 20 minutes to assemble, edit, and upload one. Most time is spent making sure that the audio cuts off at the desired places and double-checking the captions for errors. It will take you significantly less time than editing a high-quality video clip with an intro, an outro, and anything else you may need.
I like to use Wavve, a very user-friendly program that allows you to create very customized podcast audiograms quickly and easily. However, please note that if you make audiograms with your entire family using the internet, any program you use may take over an hour to upload your video. There’s a chance that it may even get stuck and you’ll have to start over.
