The consensus is in. Pretty much 100% of social gurus mid-2020 have said something along the lines of “Yeah… growing on Instagram is hard now.” While this makes us all feel a little better about our growth efforts, it can also make us feel sad, frustrated, and like we’re wasting our time.
So, should you just give up?
Here are four reasons to not give up. You should change your expectations and goals to be realistic, but don’t give up.
#1 Instagram Still Beats Facebook
Instagram still beats out Facebook by having over ten times the amount of engagement and organic reach. Although Facebook and Instagram are owned by the same people, Instagram is still one of the best places to interact with your audience, since your audience has more opportunities to interact with you.
To be honest, if you’re going to complain about low reach/ engagement on Instagram, just look at your Facebook insights. You will feel better about the organic progress you’re making on Instagram Instantly.
#2 Followers ≠ Revenue
Followers are NOT the same as revenue. You should focus more of your time thinking about your ideal buyer and crafting content that speaks directly to their needs, desires, fears, and problems. A social strategy for speaking to your ideal buyer doesn’t change. It stays the same throughout algorithm updates and technological advances.
#3 Traffic ≠ Revenue
Even if you have a great click-through rate from your social media to your website. The amount of traffic you have does not determine your revenue. The amount you make from any amount of traffic depends upon your copywriting and your sales funnel. If these two things are lacking, all of the traffic in the world that you can buy cheaply with paid ads will NOT translate into revenue.
#4 Hard ≠ Not Worthwhile
Just because something is hard, doesn’t mean it’s not worthwhile. While, a main focus on growth may not be a worthwhile use of your time or money right now, implementing some growth strategies over a long period of time may be worthwhile. Any social media platform you use is going to take time to pick up speed and gain an engaged audience that’s ready to convert. But, just like it took time to get your business running, and gain your first customers, social media will take some patience and diligence.
Once you’ve put in the consistent work though, you will have a method of reaching people that are ready to scale and grow with your business. Make sure to keep your growth methods balanced and don’t spend more time or money on them than is realistic considering the current algorithm.
